Fluoride-leaching simulation of aquifer sediment and its influencing on groundwater fluoride levels along coastal plains

Abstract Seawater intrusion and drinking-water fluorosis are frequently documented along coastal plains. Groundwater is characterized by high OH−, Na+, total dissolved solids, low Ca2+ because of seawater intrusion, such conditions favor sediment fluoride-leaching fluorosis. But the geological process has not been noticed when high-fluoride groundwater areas discussed. The sediments in a typical area gained, simulation experiments performed. Sediment fluoride levels equal to or lower than average China Shandong province, but strong aquifers observed. Compared with supplied water from non-intruded neighboring area, local higher levels, together pH, HCO3−, Cl−, Br−, SO42−, K+, intrusion.
